Drawing with Thomas Fluharty Week 1: Shape

Ok, so the first week is pretty basic. We're starting with shape study. This is where we visualize breaking down an image into 3 dimensional shapes and building from there. This week we did a Dog a Frog, and the homework is a giraffe.

Starting with primary shapes.

Drawing Fundamentals With Thomas Fluharty

I was on the fence about taking this course. I would guess my own skills are between novice (hopefully more than novice) and semi-pro. I did not go to art school, so even though I've been drawing for a while, I can't be sure that I'm not missing a vital part or my foundation. I've decided to be conservative and take the course just in case.

I figure, if I have a lot to learn from this course, then I will get my moneys worth and life is good. If, I already know all this stuff, then I'll get some very high level critique from Thomas, and raise some eyebrows. That'd be cool too; if unlikely. Also, I'd be able to sleep sound knowing that I'm building on a solid foundation.

Hello World!

Hello everyone. My name's Dave, and I'm an aspiring illustrator. This blog is meant to document my growth over the next 2 years.

For a year or so, I've been watching all of the Chiu-Stream interviews, and drawing sessions. After months of saving, I pulled the trigger and enrolled in a course. I plan on taking the following courses over the next 2 years with the goal of reaching a professional skill level when I'm done.

-Drawing Fundementals
-Gesture Drawing
-Character Design
-Intro to Digital Painting
-Digital Painting
-Design with Color and Light
-Creating a Comic Book Portfolio

I'm going to post all of my submissions for all of the courses to document my progress. Here we go. I'll see you on the other side.
